About

A Communications major graduate with a strong passion in reading and writing.

A Middle-Eastern dance enthusiast.

An animal lover, especially cats and parrots.

An ardent traveller AND tourist.

Sipping the fresh, cooling juice straight from the coconut itself!

I would typically sum myself up by those four lines whenever my fingers don’t feel like working out and filling in About Me sections. For the sake of this travel website, though, they said they’ll do almost as hard as when I’m bombarded with writing and proof-reading assignments.

As you may already know, my name is Nadia Ahmad Kamal. I’m a freelance writer and proof-reader, as well as a travel blogger. Through this website, I’m also a reseller.

In September 2009, I left my desk as a Marketing Producer of an independent post-production house to pursue my interest in writing. Three years of serving; it was my first job after graduation. So it kind of felt like breaking-up from a long-term relationship. It was difficult, but I knew I had to do it. I wanted to do it. Because when I was working there, I was also doing freelance writing jobs outside, particularly writing reviews of mostly books and a little bit of music for a lifestyle magazine. My ‘rendezvous’ was so good that that it was hard to pull myself back because it reignited my passions: reading and writing. And so it kind of felt like I was ‘having an affair’ while still ‘being married’.

Talking about relationships, I’m attached. Seeing someone who used to be my ex-colleague.

ABOUT THIS TRAVEL WEBSITE
Initially The Restless Feet (formerly known as Journey To Novelty, a Blogger-hosted site) was meant to serve only as a blog where I journaled about every place I’ve been to, each journey I’ve walked through. While having a drink at a
kopitiam one night, a friend of mine (Anis Ahmad) suggested that I could actually make a brand out of my blog. I thought, ‘Wow! A brand? That’s too ambitious! All I want to do is writing about my travel trips and share them with people who are interested enough to know about my (mis)adventures!‘ But she and her husband (Saiful Haq) got the better of me, and that night itself, I purchased my first domain name and web-hosting service. Having a self-hosted website proved to be challenging, and I was so cheapskate because I wouldn’t spend another ringgit for pro people – both programmer and designer – to set it up for me. And having no background in computer science didn’t help at all, either! Never had I expected wanting to be a travel writer would be so hard! All that was left for me was hours and days and weeks and months to figure out about PhP, CSS, and their brothers and sisters. The most invaluable thing I’ve learnt out of this is to be resourceful. I had a couple of friends who helped me out along the way, who would patiently answer my calls and e-mails regarding this website even at the wee hours of the night.

As such, I have a liking for starting from the beginning. Just like the way the journey of this blog goes. I will be on the journey to travel as many places in Malaysia as possible, before moving on to the South-east Asia, and eventually the rest of the world. Having said that, if I had the chance to go to Canada before Vietnam, I wouldn’t resist the opportunity!

Not merely a blog of my trip documentations, this travel website has now extended to having an online store, where you can find products and services in a dedicated page. Straight-leg jeans? Ear muffs? Digital camera pouch? Cashmere scarves? A book on French cooking? Or that 1,000 Places to See Before You Die: A Traveler’s Life List book? I have pretty much everything.

I would definitely appreciate it if you would leave a comment or two as to provide feedback to any of my posts. Writing/blogging can be a pretty desolating job; in the end of the day, a writer/blogger is still a social being. I would love to make this travel website as interactive as  possible. In advance, I thank you very much.

Happy browsing!
