Coincidentally it’s my sister’s birthday today, the day when I’m supposed to post a new entry. (I’ve recently started to make it a point to update this blog on 3-day intervals.) Since The Restless Feet also covers the subject of food and anything related to it, I’d like to share five tips not to indulge yourself to the extreme at birthdays. Please take note that these tips are not confined to birthdays only; they are also applicable to other parties and during the holiday seasons.
Eat Regularly before the Party
Let’s face …

A trip to Malacca would be incomplete without committing this one of the seven deadly sins – gluttony. And I’m talking to none other than doing it at any one of those restaurants along the coastline of Umbai. It’s seafood galore, baby! Oh, so sinful!
We decided to binge-eating ourselves at Ikan Bakar Parameswara after the exhausting-yet-exhilarating walk along the Malacca Heritage Trail, which was not completed yet. The reason for choosing this place was us being beckoned by the friendly staff to come over immediately when we arrived, and therefore, …

I hate to admit that I’m a hopeless romantic when I actually think I’m one, but I do have to confess that catching the sunset and enjoying the scenic view of the KL city at Look-out Point in Ampang on Sundays is the best way to wrap up your weekend for another hectic weekdays that will soon follow. Anwar and I drove up the hilltop in Ampang on last two Sundays, not much traffic to beat in the late afternoons, the first time using DUKE (Duta-Ulu Kelang) Expressway and the …

Ayam penyet restaurants are located quite scatteredly in Klang Valley, but from the feedback that I’ve had from my sister and her friend who frequent the place and have tried others, the one that really stands out is the one that I’ll be talking about in this post. (I do suspect that the latter having an Indonesian boyfriend helps a lot in finding the best ayam penyet in town!)
I hope I could be excused for thinking Waroeng Penyet only served ayam penyet, or flattened chicken. It also has other traditional …

Moroccan cuisine… Egyptian cuisine… Syrian cuisine… all these made no difference to me, as I usually categorize them as “Arabian food”. So whenever I say I feel like having Middle-eastern dishes, what I usually have in mind is kebab, kofta, and lamb soup. But if it’s a big deal for you to eat Lebanese food and not Iranian today, you’ll be pleased to find these specialty restaurants along the ever-congested Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
The plan to dine at Tarbush, a Lebanese delicacies restaurant, was long overdue. My craving for …

A year older, a year wiser. I hope. Isn’t it ironic that the older you get, the lesser you know? Because when I was younger, I thought I knew everything there was to know about life. Every now and then, especially after I’ve done a mistake, my Dad always offers this advice, quoting from Joseph Joubert: “Ask the young; they know everything.”
But 27 is still a number to me. One year older in age, one year younger at heart. I refuse to think about the past, but I choose to …

Most of the restaurants along the Symphony Lake in KLCC Park are a bit on the high-end, but it was such a delightful discovery to find out that Santini Ristorante Italiano had its lunch set menu. Super great value for your moolah! A main course and a choice of three free-flow soft drinks – Coca Cola, Sprite and 100 Plus – going at RM14.90. You can also add an appetizer, either a bowl of warm soup of the day or a bowl of fresh Garden Greens with Balsamico Dressing, not …

Quite a number of things that I missed while being away for almost one month. I was pretty content with the meals that were provided by the production and served by Sunshine Cafe, Beverly Hills Condotels in A’Famosa Resort, but the moment I reached KL, nothing could’ve delighted me than having a chicken chop at my favourite stall at Taman Selera Uptown Hawkers: Yazid Steak House.
RM8 for a sizzling chicken chop. Not bad, ey?

Ever since I was a student of International Islamic University Malaysia, I’ve always been fascinated with everything and anything Arabian. The poetic language… the mesmerizing music… the intricate art… the boisterous people… and, particularly, the mystical bellydance. And back then, my Palestinian lecturer for Arabic Listening Skills class – who would fondly call me “baiti” (“my daughter” in Arabic) because she was married but had no children - once treated me lunch at her Egyptian husband’s restaurant in the campus, serving the scrumptious Arabian snacks and food. How I loved sinking my teeth in one …

I cannot recall where they were from, but I’ve read quite a number of sources mentioning Malaysians’ favourite past time is indulging their taste buds with both local and international foods. How can we not? With a plethora of delicacies available throughout the nation, looking for a place to fulfill your very basic need can sometimes be a thought-provoking quest. As a matter of fact, the easiest question of “Where are we having lunch today?” can even pose some difficulty to answer and a long pause! As for myself, my …
